Xiamen in East China's Fujian province generated 703.39 billion yuan ($111.26 billion) in GDP in 2021, up 8.1 percent from that in 2020, according to a report released by the city's statistics bureau on Jan 25.

The report indicated that the city's primary industries grew 5.3 percent while its secondary and tertiary industries grew 6.7 percent and 9 percent, respectively, to account for 41 percent and 58.6 percent of the GDP in 2021.

In 2021, the city's added value of industries above designated size increased by 11.9 percent from that in 2020.

As the high-tech manufacturing sector improved rapidly in 2021, the high-tech industries accounted for 42.6 percent of the total added value of industries above designated size, and the investment in high-tech manufacturing accounted for 66.8 percent of the total investment in manufacturing.

The city's fixed-asset investment grew 11.3 percent, making it the only city in Fujian province that achieved double-digit growth.

The city's total retail sales of consumer goods exceeded 258.41 billion yuan, an increase of 12.7 percent, which ranked first in the province in terms of growth rate.

In 2021, Xiamen's import and export volume soared 27.7 percent from that in 2020 to 887.65 billion yuan, accounting for 48.1 percent of the province's total. Of that, its imports and exports grew 35.3 percent and 20.6 percent, respectively, to 456.92 billion yuan and 430.73 billion yuan.

Xiamen's trade with RCEP (Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership) members, countries and regions involved in the Belt and Road Initiative, and BRICS countries increased by 22 percent, 28.7 percent, and 20.7 percent, respectively, in 2021.

In 2021, people's living standards in Xiamen improved significantly with the per capita disposable income of residents amounting to 64,362 yuan and that of urban residents and rural residents increasing 9.6 percent and 12.3 percent, respectively.

In addition, 330,700 new jobs were created in the city in 2021.
