Culture
Throughout the year, the professional art troupes in the city won a total of 86 national and provincial honors. Specifically, the Gaojia opera film "A Da Sao" was nominated for the "Best Opera Film" at the 37th Golden Rooster Awards of Chinese Films. It also won the "Excellent Opera Film" at the 6th China Opera Film Exhibition, the Best Screenplay Award in the Opera Film category at the Hong Kong Film Bauhinia Awards, and several individual awards. A total of 22 plays (programs) were created and refined. The dance poem "Egret: Three Chapters", the Nanyin music work "He Bin Presents the Map", the Gaojia opera "Trial of Chen San: Visiting the Prison Cell", and the opera "Zheng Chenggong" were all selected as the only works from Fujian Province for nationwide showcase and key support projects. A total of 499 cultural performances were carried out in various places such as communities, rural areas, scenic spots, theaters, schools, and military barracks, benefiting nearly 140,000 people.
At the end of the year, there were 251 immovable cultural relics (304 sites) in the city included in the list of cultural relics protection units. Specifically, there were 7 national key cultural relics protection units (50 sites), 54 provincial-level cultural relics protection units (61 sites), 96 municipal-level cultural relics protection units (99 sites), and 94 county (district)-level cultural relics protection units (94 sites); there were 89 cultural relics and historic sites related to Taiwan in Xiamen. There were 110 representative intangible cultural heritage items at or above the municipal level, among which 15 were at the national level, 47 at the provincial level, and 48 at the municipal level; there were 232 representative inheritors of intangible cultural heritage at or above the municipal level, among which 12 were at the national level, 65 at the provincial level, and 155 at the municipal level. Two items, Nanyin music and the Ritual of Sending off the King’s Boat, have been included in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
At the end of the year, there were a total of 7 public cultural centers in the city; 11 museums and memorial halls had been registered and filed with the Fujian Provincial Bureau of Cultural Relics; and there were 10 public libraries. A total of 6 kinds of newspapers, 25 kinds of periodicals, and 13 kinds of hometown newsletters for overseas Chinese were published and distributed. There were 7 sets of radio programs and 7 sets of television programs in total. There were 66 cinemas in operation in the city, with 455 screens. The box office revenue of commercial films for the year reached 336 million yuan.
Health
At the end of the year, there were a total of 2,756 medical and health institutions of various types and at all levels in the city. Specifically, there were 70 hospitals, 33 community health service centers, 8 township health centers, 592 outpatient departments, 7 maternal and child health care institutions, and 7 centers for disease prevention and control. There were 48,446 professional health technicians, including 18,828 licensed physicians, 1,319 licensed assistant physicians, and 21,383 registered nurses. The actual number of beds in medical institutions was 23,535. Specifically, hospitals had 22,381 beds, community health service centers and rural health centers had 381 beds, and public health institutions had 771 beds.
Sports
Throughout the year, the city constructed and renovated 103 neighborhood sports fields with a total area of over 40,000 square meters. Eight sports parks, 44 smart gyms, and the sports venues of 183 schools were opened to the public. The per capita sports venue area was 2.96 square meters, ranking third in the province and fifth among 15 similar cities nationwide. The cycling routes around Xiamen Island, the cycling route in Xiamen Xiang'an Xiatanwei Park, and the classic cycling route at the forefront of Xiang'an were selected for the "China Cycling Map". More than one million users registered on the "Xiamen i-Fitness" smart service platform, and the number of people entering to exercise was nearly 10 million. Throughout the year, more than 10,000 mass sports events were held, with the number of participants exceeding one million people. The qualified rate of national physical fitness monitoring reached 93.1%. There were 310 sports social organizations in the city, basically achieving full coverage of population-based sports associations and single-sport associations.
Throughout the year, Xiamen athletes won a total of 49 gold medals in domestic and international competitions, securing 19 team championships, 17 team runner-ups, and 11 team third places in the 2024 Provincial Youth Championship. The city established 98 new base schools and 84 schools with a strong tradition and distinctive features for the new cycle. More than 50 events were held, including the 2024 Xiamen "Run, Youth" themed championship, the "Mountain and Sea Cup" Youth Football Invitational, a city-wide middle and primary school jump rope competition involving tens of thousands of students, leagues of the three major ball games, and a breakdance open contest, with over 150,000 participants throughout the year. A total of 10 batches of 108 qualified sports off-campus training institutions were publicly listed on the whitelist.
Throughout the year, a total of 40 high-level competitions were held, including the Diamond League Season Opener, WBC/WBO Professional Boxing Championship, CBA All-Star Weekend, and the NYBO National Youth Basketball Finals. The Xiamen Marathon was awarded the world's first and only "Sustainable Development Model Event" title by World Athletics and was selected as an "Influential Typical Case of 2023" by the China Athletics Association. Tickets for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Asian Qualifiers went on sale and sold out within 4 hours, with more than 45,000 people expected to attend the matches. The Smart Strength Fitness Mirror by Shuziyinli and the Digital Entertainment Football Platform by GenGee Technology were selected as typical smart sports cases by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the General Administration of Sport of China for 2024. Xiamen's Wuyuan Bay Sailing and Yacht Port and the Lujiang River Crossing were honored as 2024 China Sports Tourism Boutique Projects.
