Throughout the year 2023, the added value of transportation, storage, post and telecommunication sectors reached 40.804 billion yuan, up by 13.0% year on year. The city saw the passenger traffic volume soar 95.0% year on year to 105 million person-trips; the passenger turnover skyrocket by 110% to 50.639 billion persons per kilometer; the cargo freight volume increase by 0.7% to 434 million tons; and the goods turnover volume rise by 7.0% to 340.815 billion ton-kilometer. As of the end of the year, 188 production berths were available in the Port of Xiamen (including Zhangzhou), 80 berths of which had the capacity of 10 thousand DWT. The cargo handling capacity at ports was 220 million tons, increasing by 0.4%, and the container handling capacity was 12.5537 million TEUs (standard container of twenty foot equivalent unit), increasing by 1.0%.

Following the winter-spring flight schedule for 2023 released by Civil Aviation Administration, Xiamen Airlines had 152 air routes in operation, including 27 international (regional) ones, from which 6 were intercontinental ones. 11 foreign (regional) airlines at Xiamen Airport had opened navigation with 25 overseas cities (including HK, Macao, Taipei and Kaohsiung ) with regular routine. The passenger throughout handled by Xiamen reached 24.1041 million person-trips, up 140% year-on-year, of which 2,522 thousand passengers were flying through international and regional routes and the air cargo handling capacity was 314.4 thousand, up by 420% and 20% respectively.    

 

In 2023, the total delivery business transaction of post services reached 752.5997 million pieces, an increase of 11.4% over the previous year, of which the express business volume was 641.1983 million pieces, an increase of 13.4%; and the total volume of telecommunications services was 8.099 billion yuan, an increase of 12.1%. 

Xiamen had 924.4 thousand fixed-line telephone subscribers and 6,864.2 thousand cellular phone subscribers in total,, up -3.6% and 0.9 respectively year-on-year.   Specifically, there were 3,350.5 thousand 5G cellular subscribers, an increase of 36.2%. The number of fixed broadband internet access users was 2,999 thousand, an increase of 6.0%; the mobile internet users numbered 6.3915 million, an increase of 4.0%; and the number of 5G base stations was 14.7 thousand, an increase of 35.5%.

 

In 2023, Xiamen had received 109.8701 million tourists at home and abroad, a sharp increase of 67.3% over the previous year, bringing about overall tourism revenue of 156.731 billion yuan and an increase of 83.3%. Of all the tourists, the number of the inbound overnight visitors was 768.2 thousand, up1.8 times year on year; and the foreign exchange earnings from tourism rose by1.9 times to US $524 million. The domestic tourists pouring to Xiamen totaled 109.1019 million person-times, up by 66.8% over the previous year, while the domestic overnight tourists reached 47.0942 million person-times, up by 1.5 times. The revenue from domestic tourism reached 153.051 billion yuan, an increase of 81.5%. Throughout the year, the city provided a total of 4,596 tourism accommodation units, including 40 star-rated hotels (20 were five-star hotels).

 

The year 2023 had witnessed 152 exhibitions held in Xiamen, with a total exhibition area of 2,261.5 thousand square meters, up by 34.5% and 68.2% respectively. 4,383 times of commerce conferences capable of accommodating groups of above 50 people were held here and the participants numbered 810.1 thousand, a respective increase of 1.1 times and 1.6 times. The exhibition industry over the past year altogether generated economic revenue of 28.738 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 85.4%.
